Is it worth it to join a state bar organization? Options

I don't mean the state one necessarily, but the local town/civic. I belong to mine and like the monthly luncheons and being able to talk to people - solo firm - but it never seems to amount to more than that because the state bar and private companies offer CLE's and the ABA sends me publications. I have made a contact or two that I've been able to call withg a procedural question...

Is it just a waste of money, or are there other benefits I'm missing out on?
